Professional Background

I am a highly skilled and experienced clinical psychologist.  I completed my Ph.D. in 1972 in the USA and did additional training in child clinical psychology.  Later I completed training in group psychotherapy and became a Board Certified Trainer in group therapy.  In 1980 I trained at the Institute of Family Therapy in London, England for three years in Relationship and Family Therapy.  I have been in private practice for over 40 years, led workshops and training  in over 30 countries, and have been a presenter at several professional conferences.  Currently, I am a member of the training faculty in individual and group psychotherapy and am a supervisor of other counsellors and therapists, as well as having a psychotherapy practice in Balmain.

My Approach

The focus is on you, and your issues and needs. You are encouraged to find your own way to making wise choices and to take responsibility for those choices. There is a genuine appreciation of your unique experience of your life, and you are supported in exploring the difficulties and strengths in your life.  My approach emphasises the various aspects of your life and its challenges, and helping you to move toward integration and wholeness.  I am an active participant in the therapeutic process, connecting with you with care, respect, authenticity, and when necessary, 'supportive confrontation' when you are avoiding taking responsibility for the quality of your life.   During the therapeutic journey you will be supported to explore, rather than the old and familiar, new ways of being, doing, and relating that will bring greater satisfaction to your life.
